International Cricket Council, also known as ICC has decided that India will host the next Cricket World Cup in 2023. Until now India has hosted three cricket world cups but it was always jointly hosted by neighboring countries like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. But in 2023, India will host the World Cup alone. It means that no other nation will be hosting the Cricket World Cup 2023 along with India.
Previously India has partially hosted three World Cup editions in the year 1987, 1996 and 2011. The 1987 World Cup was hosted by India and Pakistan. The final took place between Australia and England at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Australia defeated England by 7 runs and won that World Cup. In 1996, the World Cup was hosted between India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The final took place between Sri Lanka and Australia in Lahore, Pakistan. In this World Cup, Sri Lanka defeated Australia by 7 wickets. In 2011, the cup was hosted between India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The final was played between India and Sri Lanka at the newly renovated Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. India won that World Cup by defeating Sri Lanka with 6 wickets.
First time when India won a Cricket World Cup was in 1983. No one would have ever dreamed of winning a World Cup in 1983. In those days, West Indies were called the dominators of the game and India won that World Cup by defeating them in the finals at the Mecca of Cricket – Lords. The whole credit of this success goes to only one man Kapil Dev. He was the only one in the team who had a belief that India can win the World Cup and get recognition in this field.
Everyone remembers what happened when India hosted the Cricket World Cup in 2011. India won the World Cup after 28 years at the Wankhede under the leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, one of the greatest captain Indian cricket has ever had. This was the last World Cup of the Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar. He had achieved almost everything in his cricketing career until that point but the only thing which was left to be ticked was a Cricket World Cup Trophy. So every player wanted to win this Cup for Sachin and fulfill his ultimate dream.
In 2023 India is alone going to host the Cricket World Cup, it is expected that lots of people around the country will get a chance to experience the matches at their nearest cricket stadiums. In India, almost every state has at least 1 International Cricket Stadium. So it will be very much interesting to know which all stadiums will get a chance to host a match.
Quite a few stadiums have been renovated and some are still under reconstruction. The Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad is under renovation. Once the reconstruction is completed this stadium will become the largest cricket stadium in the world. It will overtake Australia’s Melbourne Cricket Ground with a sitting capacity of more than 110,000 people. It is expected that this stadium will host the finals in the next Cricket World Cup in 2023.
